Von Poe VII & Papa J. Ruiz – “5 Tracks and the Intro” EP

(@vonpoevii @papajruiz)
On January 2nd, California emcee Von Poe VII and Colorado emcee strong>Papa J. Ruiz released a highly-anticipated collaborative EP, titled 5 Tracks and the Intro. The 6-track project came as a surprise to their fans, because two didn’t tell anyone that they were working on something, nor did they even lead us on that it was being released, until the day of its arrival. They even dodged the questions in a 3-part interview that dropped 3 days prior 1, 2, and 3).

Seeing that the two are best friends, Organized Threat front-runners, and have worked together a lot (from features on one another’s projects, to cameos in music videos, to Poe directing Papa J’s videos, etc), it’s been a long-time coming for this special project. All of the songs were written and recorded in an impressive 2-day time span, while Papa J. Ruiz was visiting Von Poe VII. Production comes from 92, SumTotal, NxxxxxS, Urban Nerd, and R.M.

Their lyrical styles are similar in terms of each bringing assertive deliveries, an all-or-nothing approach, great energy, and song writing that’s deep with introspection, honesty, social commentary, and thought-provoking content. Subject matter throughout these songs revolve around struggle and grinding to build a great future, family and community, raising the bar for themselves and hip hop, personal ambitions and inspiring others, internal pain and defeating the odds, and life and death. I’ve listened to it a lot since its release, and I think you should give it a listen (if you haven’t already). This is a solid piece of work from these two (not that I expected anything less), so make sure you give it a listen, make a purchase for $5 (or add it to your wishlist), maybe recommend it to a friend, and be on the look out for a full-length LP in the future. Also, of course, go support their individual endeavors.

From Papa J. Ruiz:
“With such little time to make this project running along side of a very long friendship we have built we decided to keep this a secret until it was ready for the world. We never spoke on it with the public or even with some of our closes friends. This is kind of like a meteorite that’s going to hit earth with no time left to save the human races this is just a site to see something you will only experience once so don’t close yours iii’s cause it’s here and you were never expecting it kind of like birth.” – iii / $outh £@$+ $ide

From Von Poe VII:
“I’ve never been too big on words, but if I could say anything about this project it’d be that I’m happy to have been able to create something dope with my brother, and that through all the shit we’ve been through, I’m happy we can still show the world that WE aren’t going anywhere. We want to change not just the game, but the world through our music. Oh, and be on the lookout for our solo projects as well. Peace to THE MOVEMENT” – VII / THE VILLAIN
