SOAK – “Sea Creatures” (Live on 89.3 The Current)

I was new to SOAK (@soakofficial) up until last night, when I watched her live performance of “Sea Creatures” over at The Current Youtube channel. Then, like anyone who gets put onto someone new and fantastic, I went to Youtube to listen to more! SOAK is an 18-year-old Irish singer-songwriter that released her debut album, titled Before We Forgot How To Dream, on June 1st (2nd in the USA), over at Rough Trade Records.

Back to the topic at hand, “Sea Creatures”. While I like the music video and the production to go with the original song, there’s something so special with an acoustic rendition, especially with an emotional song such as this. In an intimate setting, she sits alone in front of a mic, with an acoustic guitar on her lap, while she sings about love, loneliness, and being fearful of losing someone you care about. Her vocals are sweet and alluring with a warm tone, and it’s a beautiful, soothing song, despite the somber mood. Watch the video. I also linked the original music video below. If you like what you hear, make sure you soak up her greatness by seeking out more of her music, and/or buy her album.
