Scrimshire’s new label Albert’s Favourites + new song
I just got word (okay, it was in the form of a newsletter) that songwriter / producer Scrimshire has started a new label, called Albert’s Favourites. In the newsletter, he explained the history behind the label name, still being heavily involved with his Wah Wah 45s label, and the direction of the new venture (all of which you can read at the bottom of this post).
To go along with the label announcement, he also has a new musical project. He and Dave Koor (1/3rd co-founder of Albert’s Favourites, and also in the band The Expansions) have formed a duo known now as Modified Man. While the two have a lot of vaulted material, they dropped a remix of Dele Sosimi‘s afrobeat song “You No Fit Touch Am“, transforming it with a big energy, electro-synth sound. Listen to the remix below, and look out for it on a heavy 12” via Wah Wah 45s at the end of November.
“When I was a kid we used to head to Wales every summer on our summer holidays. We’d spend weeks there with my Nan and Gramp, who would swap for periods with aunts and uncles and of course my parents. If you’ve followed my albums you may know some of this story as these places and memories of my childhood run through much of my music.
One thing that stands out in family memories was a particular tradition… Ahead of our lengthy drive to the far southern coastline of Wales my Gramp, Albert, would make a mixtape containing his, my nan’s, me and my brother’s favourite songs of the moment.
And that mixtape was called ‘Albert’s Favourites’.
It’s been on my mind for some time to start a record label. Of course I am still fully in love and completely absorbed in my amazing Wah Wah 45s. But you can’t always put everything in one basket. And there were some things I wanted to do and some people I wanted to work with that fell a little outside our Wah Wah space.
Plus, after living in South London for much of my adult life, I wanted to do something based here, physically.
Albert’s Favourites is a family of producers, a studio space and a record label and I’m proud to launch it today with my co-founders Dave Koor and Jonny Drop of The Expansions.”
