Two Tiffanys celebrating what they love by giving it a stage and using their voices to spread the word.

Piano steps

piano_keys Don’t be lazy… choose the staircase. To encourage people at the Odenplan subway station in Stockholm to walk the steps instead of the escalator, Volkswagen converted a set of steps into working piano keys.

Interviews: Monk

Meet Monk. He’s a hip hop event coordinator and promoter, as well as a producer/DJ. At one point he also held the mic as an emcee and expresses himself through spoken-word.

He’s a long-time friend of mine, holding it down in Virginia. I met him years ago through a mutual friend, and now here we are doing an interview together. Time flies. Not only is he a really cool guy, but he also holds a lot of talent and his strive to reach his goals is quite inspiring. It’s hard not to gravitate towards a person who just keeps pushing. And not to mention, his love of all things hip hop is kinda sexy. He’s always doing big things, and never giving up. Check the interview I had with him this week….

Mae Day Gives It All

maegiveitallYou might remember the post that I made about Mae Day, and her free mixtape “Cherish The Day“. Well now there’s a music video for the track, “Give it all”.

Super Nova Jimi

mearonejimismall Can you guess who that is at the left? If you’re thinking Jimi Hendrix, or if you read the title of this post, you’re right. Haha.

Mear One, a well-known west coast artist (based in Los Angeles), has painted this beautiful work of art. An oil canvas of the legendary Jimi Hendrix.

Del's "Automatik Statik"

del_automatikstatik Del keeps on making music, doesn’t he? Go ‘head, man.

Check it out! You can download this album for free. BUT, if you cough up $30, you’ll get a pair of limited edition Del “Funkman” Skull Candy headphones and a 30 minute conference call with the man himself. How dope is that? Looks like he figured out how to bring in money… because you can’t download/leak an actual phone call conversation.

Georgia Anne Muldrow and Adriana Evans

actheaderJust checked my inbox and noticed I had received some goodies: two songs from the label Animated Car Tunes.

First up, Georgia Anne Muldrow is releasing a new album on the label A.C.T. The album is titled, “Early“, and will be dropping November 10th. Keep your eyes open for that! Are you as excited as I am? I love her music!

Also on the label, is a singer named Adriana Evans. I’ve never heard of Adriana, but apparently she made her way into the R&B world in the late ’90s and early ’00s. Her second album, “Nomadic” (from 2004), is being re-released on the label, also on November 10th.

And here at CrayonBeats, we have a single from each album for your listening and viewing pleasure…

Kid Koala "The Slew"

theslew Kid Koala, turntablist from Canada, hasn’t dropped an album since his 2006 release, “Your Mom’s Favorite DJ“. But now he’s back! Three years later with a new album titled, “The Slew“.

The Slew” is available for free download, since they’re doing The Slew tour this year. Who are they? Kid Koala, his friend Dynomite D, and ex-members from Wolfmother Chris Ross and Myles Heskett. Live drums, bass, keys, and six turntables… delivering 70-minute sets of raw guitar and fresh manipulated beats. Psychedelic rock meets turntablism, for a mind-blowing sound.

The Cat Piano

thecatpiano “The Cat Piano” is short film by The People’s Republic of Animation. It’s narrated by Nick Cave. Directed by Eddie White & Ari Gibson. Produced by Jessica Brentnall.

“In a city of singing cats, a lonely beat poet falls for a beautiful siren. When a mysterious dark figure emerges, kidnapping the town’s singers for his twisted musical plans, the poet must save his muse and put an end to the nefarious tune that threatens to destroy the city.”

It’s an all-around incredible video. From animation, to narration, to the whole mood/feel, to the colors used, and so forth. The link to the video is after the jump…

Del & Tame One "Flashback"

deltameone In the beginning of September, I read that Del The Funky Homosapien and Tame One were doing an album together. Whaaaat? Yeah, I was slightly excited. I heard one leaked track and couldn’t wait for the album, “Parallel Uni-Verses“, to drop October 13th. Be on the look-out for that.

And now… a video for the track “Flashback” is after the jump…

Spare Paint

davidchoonglee-image I saw this video of David Choong Lee helping out a homeless man on the side of the street. He painted a new, colorful sign (pictured to the left) for him and just listened to his story. That, to me, is a good person. I like good people and those that reach out to help others.

I introduce you to a series called, Spare Paint. It featured two San Francisco artists named David Choong Lee and Brian Barneclo. They offered their talents to paint new, visually-striking cardboard signs for the men to use. And while painting the signs, the men talked about their lives and how they got there. Beautiful and touching project.

Below are the two-part video series featuring both the artists, brought to you by Walrus TV.
