Goodbye, CrayonBeats blog

When we started CrayonBeats, we were young and truly engulfed in the music we shared. We put our hearts and souls into this blog and, as the years have gone by, it has grown with us. Together and individually, we have always been creative people with ideas and imaginations that stretched far beyond what we could see. We went from casually blogging online to curating mixtapes, producing an actual print magazine (see digital versions), and even released apparel, with only our imaginations and the will to create to guide us. Those EIGHT YEARS of blogging were the formative and experimental years for our baby, CrayonBeats, and we really appreciate everyone who has supported us and pushed us to dream bigger during those years.

CB Question of the Week: Younger self

This past week’s #QOTW revolved around things that you would tell your younger self, in regards to advice or reassurance. It’s a common question or prompt, where you’re tasked to reflect back to all the life lessons you’ve learned, the experiences you’ve had, and the trials and tribulations you’ve faced, to then give some life advice or reassurance to the younger you. Not necessarily to hugely change your life path that would drastically alter your future (because, if you watched Heroes, “stepping on butterflies” is a bad thing [aka “the butterfly effect”]), but to say something to make you feel better about yourself or to take the sting away from a situation, or something to that effect. Below, you will find two people that responded to our question, as well as our own answers.

CB Question of the Week: Collaboration

Continuing on with our #QuestionOfTheWeek series, we asked who you guys & girls wanted to collaborate with in the (near) future, why and to tag them in your comment. We thought it would be a fun way to mix things up and possibly get some link ups going between people who maybe wouldn’t. We also promised to tell you who’s on our wishlist of collaboration(s) so lets get to it!

CB Question of the Week: What drives you to create?

This post is for the second question in our Q&A series, called Question of the Week. As you may already know, we will be posting a single question to our social media sites every Sunday, inviting anyone who wants to answer and/or share their experiences. If you missed our first question and the responses we shared, check that out right here (feel free to answer the question in the comments, if you missed it and want to join in).

This Q&A series is our way of getting in touch with creative people worldwide–we want to open the conversation to anyone who wants to join in, not just to those that we already know and have written about on our website. We want to get a glimpse into your life and who you are, while also aiming to inspire and uplift other people who might be able to relate and/or absorb what others are saying.

#SongChallenge Day 28: A Song That Reminds You Of Your S/O

Whether you have a crush, are casually dating someone, or have a significant other, there is bound to be a song (or many songs) that will remind you of that person. Maybe you heard that song during a special moment that you two shared, or maybe it’s a song you both really like/hate, or maybe you heard a song that closely resembles the way you feel for them, or whatever the case may be–When you hear it, your mind instantly flashes to their face. This day’s challenge is dedicated to a song that reminds us of our significant others. However, since neither of us have one of those, I named a song that reminds me of someone I have feelings for, and Tiffny shared a song that she hopes to share with someone special. Check ’em out.

#SongChallenge Day 27: A Song You Make Fun Of

I don’t know about you guys, but when I don’t know the lyrics to songs, I tend to string together nonsensical phrases that fit the original lyrics until I decide I’m going to actually take the song seriously enough and learn the real lyrics. I know that this isn’t what the topic is about, but that’s how I (Tiffny) am going to interpret it since if I don’t like a song, I don’t even bother to listen to it, let alone make fun of it. So, here we go.

#SongChallenge Day 26: A Song By Your Favorite Band

Your favorite band is your favorite band because their music excites you. No matter what or where, they have a song you relate to so much that it can send chills up your spine, break you down to tears, or brighten your whole outlook on life. Today’s theme is just that, that one song by our favorite band(s) that changed the world for us. As this is pretty self explanatory let’s get down to business! Read more

#SongChallenge Day 24: A Cover Song

Today’s challenge focuses on the cover song! I don’t know about you, but we love covers. Whether the person approaches the song with a whole different rhythm or melody, strips it down to an acoustic version, or makes subtle differences, it’s often neat to see/hear how other people give new life–through their own voice and style–to an original song, by another musician. Sometimes the cover song is better than the original, sometimes the cover is just as good, and, of course, sometimes the cover doesn’t stack up. But we’re going to talk about songs that fall within the first two categories. Keep reading to find out what our favorites are! Read more

#SongChallenge Day 23: A song that makes you angry

Now I don’t know about you, but I tend not to listen to songs that piss me off. I mean, what’s the point–especially when we’ve got so many choices now to pick from, who’s got the time to sit through a song that you don’t like? What is this 1980? Anyway, I’ll be a good sport and try to find a song that grinds my gears and I’m assuming Tiffology will as well. Let’s get to it!

#SongChallenge Day 22: Your Life Theme Song

Everyone claims to have a song that sums up their life and today’s topic is just that: finding a song that would play as the theme if our lives were on TV. This is pretty intense because think about it: this song is the song that you *think* you love and that sums up your life but imagine it being attached to your presence from this day forward!? Right?! It makes picking a song pretty hard considering I’d have to be something we wouldn’t mind hearing all the time. Now before you freak out over this hypothetical scenario, check out what we chose as our Theme Songs and maybe you can get some inspiration from that!

#SongChallenge Day 21: Wedding Song

In all of those romantic/romantic comedy movies that you see about weddings, they always say that the girls spend their whole lives planning their future wedding–from thinking about the dresses, the cake, the place, the songs, and so on. Whether that’s true for every girl or not, this song challenge is dedicated to a song that we want to dance to at our future wedding. Since neither of us are married yet (haaaaaay!), we’re going to each share a song that we definitely want to dance along to, with our groom-to-be. Whether it’s the slow, first dance as a married couple kind, the get-down-and-boogie kind, or anything in between… this is what we want. And what we want goes, because bridezilla! Have a listen to ours, and share yours! Read more
