#SongChallenge Day 19: A Song You’re Currently Obsessed With
We Tiffanys here at CrayonBeats tend to obsess over songs on the regular. From getting hooked on a single track to playing an album at full ad nauseam, this should be easy like Sunday morning. I don’t want to hold you guys up with any banter about the topic since 1: it’s pretty self explanatory and 2: I’m really excited to post my song(s). So with that being said, read on for our Song Obsessions:
Tiffny: So these four songs have been on heavy rotation for the past few months for me. The first time I heard Needle by BLCK MSHRM I literally sat there with my mouth open like -“Why isn’t this on the radio!?” and proceeded to hit repeat over and over. MOMENT’s Burn Flags and ä»°ã£ã¦ã‚‹ã¨ãŠã‚Š (feat.文鮮明, Joel Osteen & Yanatake) kinda snuck up on me. It’s from his latest 2-part mixtape Season Of Letters & Bullet (free download here) and it goes hard. If you speak Japanese and Korean it’s even better -obvs- but you don’t have to understand what he’s saying to be witness to his dopeness. I love his delivery and when I can understand the lyrics (with my limited Japanese/Korean) I’m left speechless. Mateo‘s cover of Lana del Rey’s Blue Jeans is perfection. First off, we gotta acknowledge just how dope Ultraviolence is as an album and Blue Jeans is one of those songs that makes you wish you’d written it. It’s amazing and when Mateo did his cover on youtube, putting a smooth R&B flip on her song I was obsessed immediately and needed to hear it as much as possible.

LOVE X STEREO – “STORM” // JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW – “YOU KNOW” \\ PETITE MELLER – “BACKPACK”
Tiffology: Like Tiffny, I am going to list a few songs that I’m currently obsessed with. First, there’s this awesome punk rock song “Storm” by Seoul-based band Love X Stereo. I randomly stumbled on this song/video two months ago, and I loved it from the get-go. The zig-zag synths, grungy guitars, crashing snares, aggressive kicks, the high energy, and the incredibly catchy lyrics that you can find me randomly singing along to. “GOTTA GET AWAY NOWWWW!” Then there’s James Vincent McMorrow, whom I’ve always been a lover of. He can do no wrong. “You Know” has been on repeat since I heard it, and it’s not going anywhere. His voice consistently makes me weak in the knees and hot in the pants, and this is no different. It’s a stunning song about that cloud 9 grand love. I am feeling this song super hard, and a little extra considering that I’m crushing on someone hard… and have these wonderful butterfly feelings. “You know, you know, you know it.” Lastly, is French singer Petite Meller‘s song/video for “Backpack”. Although it came out in 2013, it’s been one that I’ve listened to a lot late last year, and that I continue to return to this month. It’s such a fun, youthful, jazzy pop song that embraces freedom and individuality. What’s not to like? Petite is unique, talented, and she’s so dang cuuuute to look at. She dropped a new music video last week, that I’ll be writing about sometime this week too! But for now, WATCH “BACKBACK” AND ENJOY!
