Bop Alloy is a group that’s made up of Baltimore emcee Substantial and Seattle producer Marcus D. Their aim is to “make quality music that anybody, from any walk of life, can enjoy.” They blend a cool mix of hip hop, smooth jazz, and soul. In 2010, they released a self-titled full album. It featured artists such as Steph the Sapphic Songstress, Cise Star (of CYNE), Edgar Allen Floe, Tunji, and others. Once December 2011 hit, they released their new project “Remixes and Revisions“, as well as the instrumental version. So get your hands on those and delight your ears.

And in this case, there are 8 rappers showin’ you what Portland has to offer. You should be familiar with producer/rapper Tab already. He’s done work with A.U.R.C. (“Grayscale Ballads“) the Dead Poet Society collabo with Renegade (“The Empty Bottle Project“, “To The Grave“, and “The Kenny Chang Tapes“), and with Tone Liv (“The Vermont Tapes“). Tab and trip hop producer Anitek have collaborated many times together on albums before: “The Freakout Tent“, “Chasing Rabbits“, and “Traveling in Stereo“. That would make this album, “Project Monarch“, their fourth. While Tab often helps on production, and lends his vocals, this album is solely instrumentals. The two worked together while in different countries… the power of the internet.

“Project Monarch” is the type of album that’s probably best suited for night-time. Either during a night cruise, or with your headphones on, just zoning out. It dreamy and therapeutic. There are some songs, such as “Computer Bug”, “Heavy Sphere” and “Divine Invasion”, that could be in a sci-fi soundtrack. Listen below.
