Also known as Random, Mega Ran recently dropped his Mega Man 10 inspired album aptly titled…Mega Ran 10. Born Raheem Jarbo, the Philly native and Phoenix transplant states that he never wants anyone to be able to predict his next move, hence the moniker Random. After teaching himself to make beats on MTV Music Generator (throw back!), the Penn State graduate landed a job at a local radio station, where in his down time he would create his first demo. His first political and spiritually charged album “The Call” (2006) went on to achieve critical acclaim, the video for its first single “Push” earning an Australian Independent Short Film Award nomination as well as the album in full being utilized in university coursework in several colleges across the US. His second release “Mega Ran” (2007) was comprise completely of 8-bit beats sampled from Mega Man, and it along with its follow up “Mega Ran 9″ resulted in CAPCOM offering Random special licensing and opportunities to perform at Comic-Con and other related events. After signing with Japanese label River City Records and releasing RANDOMONIUM in 2009, he teamed up with producer K-Murdock to release FOREVER FAMICOM, a conceptual album which paid homage to the 8-bit NES & 16-bit Super NES game consoles. Keeping with the video-game theme he released “Black Materia”–a nod to Final Fantasy VII, which ranked in the top 10 of its respective categories on iTunes and Amazon. Now with Mega Ran 10, he continues on the 8-bit path. Let’s give it a go, shall we?
