Formally known as W.E.B. & Syrenn, Jason James and Rodney Hazard (respectfully) released a few songs from their upcoming album The Marvelous World of Color (Aug 2010) about a week ago. The guys are going by their “government” names and with the name change comes a new sound. Without taking too much from the sound fans are used to, they have managed to add a new spin to their music, and at the same time, retain their musical integrity. So far, three tracks have been posted and are up for download (free); as expected, the tracks are on point, with smooth beats and lyrics to make you think. Often times when an artist chooses to change their style, something gets lost as a compromise, but based on these previews, nothing will be lacking on Marvelous World of Color. Check out the three released tracks below, as well with links to connect with the guys. Anyone can already tell, just by listening to the teaser tracks that this is going to be another mind-blowing album.

Just recently, the Adult Swim x Kia “8 Singles in 8 Weeks” campaign introduced me to the Cults. Cults is an indie pop band from NYC, that consists of Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin. They met when Brian was the tour manager of Madeline’s brother’s band.
Their track, “Oh My God”, is what hooked me to seek out more of their music. I loved the catchy pop sound of the track, and Madeline’s sweet, playful voice. Check out the video for “Oh My God” below…

Rey Resurreccion is an emcee from San Jose, California. He grew up listening to The Pharcyde, Outkast, and Tupac. He dropped the album “Limitless” in 2009 (iTunes & CD Baby).
If you’re frequent on CB, you’d know that Nima Fadavi isn’t a stranger around these parts (he also has a few tracks on our mixtape). He remixed Rey Resurreccion’s “Spaceships” track from his “Limitless” album. Click the jump to watch the video, and download the track.

B.Lewis is a young beat maker from California. I finally went through his free beat-tape, “Mercury Backburner” tonight (thanks moovmnt), since it has been sitting on my external hd for about a month. I was hooked as soon as the album started. Second track in, “What It Do Donkey”, took me in for a head-nodding, Aretha Franklin ride. I replayed the song 4 times before moving on to the next track. I have plenty of favorites, some of them include: “Love Latency”, “What It Do Donkey”, “Your Shoes Untied”, “Do Do Do”, “Hardly Pardoned”, “Rabbit Smoke”, and “Morning Yawn”.
He remixes tracks like: Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back”, Anthony Hamilton’s “Charlene”, and Regina Spektor’s “Us”. He also samples from movies like “The Princess Bride”, “Casablanca”, “Big Trouble in Little China”, etc. Anyway, hit the jump for a tracklist, download link, and other stuff…

Yeti-One passed me this free download of a Scoot Dubbs (from Cut Camp) track called, “Nerdy Girl”. It’s Scoot Dubbs first single from his upcoming LP titled, “It’s Not So Bad” (looking to be dropped in August). The track, produced by Yeti-One, is about a nerdy girl who secretly likes to get dirty. Simple enough, with that fun, hip hop vibe.

Guess who’s back, slaying wack rappers with his lyrical lightsaber? Yeah, Emp is back! And he’s back in a powerful way that gets me excited for his new release. That’s right, “Fine Art” is the first single from his upcoming album titled, “The Last Emperor & The Wizards Wardrobe“. It’s looking at a fall 2010 release on Red Planet Music, so keep your eyes open for that.
The video was directed by Thumper Nagasako (of Hi Focused Productions), and shot in Emp’s hometown of Philadelphia, PA. Peep the vid below…

So I’ve had this instrumental album sitting on my external harddrive for about a month, and I’m just getting around to listening to it. Swiss beatmaker, Chief, dropped a free album in homage to Chick Corea, whom is a legendary jazz pianist and composer.
I was hooked at the first track, “Love castel”. Second track, soooooo good. And it kept going on from there. Daaaaaaaaamn, it was all so pleasing to my ears – particularly tracks one and two. I’ve never heard of Chief before, but after this, I’m going to keep up on him. I love this album. After the jump, listen to all the tracks, and download the entire album at the link below.
