Hey guys and girls, I haven’t posted anything in awhile due to my laptop crashing the other weekend. But I’m back! I had to reformat it, so I lost everything. EVERYTHING. Oh well, what can ya do? Nothing. Moving on… I’m here to tell you about The Algebraists.

Apart of the familiar Audio Reconnaissance label, Emcee Yeti-One (of Twin Monster and Red Bus) and producer 90lbs (of Oreo Jones) make up The Algebraists. They released their debut album titled, “The Diamond Age“, on June 22nd, 2010. The overall sound of the album weaves between electronic and hip hop, with a video game vibe (and if you’re familiar with Yeti-One or 90lbs, you’d know that this is a change for the two of them). The album can be purchased on Amazon for $7.12, so check it out. And listen to their single, “Androids dream of electric sheep” below the jump…

Reggae Dancehall Queen, Ruby Red stands out from the crowd with her crimson locks swishing through the air as she moves it and grooves it. Teaching her students the hottest combination to the hottest reggae beat she attacks the dance floor, with so much energy it’s hard not to get hyped just by watching her. Aside from her vibrantly colored hair, and insane skill, Ruby Red  stands out as one of the very few choreographers in Taiwan who dedicate their talents to promoting and inspiring Reggae culture in her country. As a relatively underground scene in the vast country, where pop, electronica, classical, and hip hop rule the airwaves and dancefloors, Ruby Red’s love of Reggae and Dancehall is rare, but much welcomed in the every increasing Global Village of music and dance. She’s so dope, Reggae artist Lyrikill made a song especially for her, and she in turn cranked out a bad-ass routine to go with it! Currently, Ruby Red is teaching classes in Taiwan for any who’s interested in learning, and her youtube channel has many samples of her work. After watching just two of her videos, I so impressed by her overall talent that I asked RubyRed if she’d be so kind as to answer a few questions with me. Read on for her interview:

Southern  hip hop is getting a whole new meaning with Answer, a rap group who hails from the South. South Korea, that is. This rap duo is expanding the sounds of Korean pop, Hip Hop and R&B as they bring a little bit of American laced southern hospitality to their country. Influenced by dirty south hip hop artists such as Lil’ Wayne, the group brings that same charisma and fire to their songs. Impressive and rhyme patterns on top of heavy hitting beats separates this crew from the competition: their flow and style making them easily stand out in the crowd. Their new single is currently creating a huge buzz on the Korean internet, as well as here in the States, with videos of their songs on youtube drawing in more and more views each day.

Just Like SISTAR0

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of questions asked of me about how I feel about this new Kpop group or that new Kpop group. And to tell you the truth, they’re all pretty much the same to me, when it comes down to idol groups. Through not much fault of their own; all of the groups dress alike, sing similar sounding songs, and even cross promote in with each other and in similar ways, so I can’t really say I’ve been inclined to listen to any pop groups lately for the simple lack of the “IT” factor to make them stand out. Well, that changed a few days ago, when I decided to check out SISTAR, a new Kpop idol girl group under Starship Entertainment.

As I’ve mentioned earlier this month, J-Summit NYC’s monthly event was held on Japan Day and CrayonBeats sent special correspondents Rebecca and Julie to give us their opinion of the festivities. The girls are both into J-rock, however, they were relatively new to some of the local bands that played on the 6th. Read on for Rebecca’s review on how things went:

Myke Forte (Mickel Ledford) just released his first Audiopixel beat video, using the Akai MPC2500. The video shows him creating a beat, in a breakdown type of manner. Beginning with chopped samples, and adding other key parts one at a time – drums, claps, percussion, basstone, etc.

Myke Forte is a beat maker/producer from Birmingham, UK. I heard about him through the Soap-Box collective. Both the Soap-Box World and Myke Forte have this project together called Audiopixel, which combines music and art. So be on the lookout for that. Video + more after the jump…

A what now? You read that correctly. Tokyo’s own Neo Samurai is making a stop on his world-wide tour to sit and chat with none other than New York’s own Lady Miz Diva Velez. The exclusive in-store event will be held on June 26th at Kinokuniya Bookstore, NYC; the night before his performance at Irving Plaza.  The Lady Miz Diva Velez is no stranger to J-rock stars as she successfully hosted not one, but two previous panels for NYC’s J-rockers and international band Dir En Grey, and now with the arrival of arguably the most popular Japanese rock musician in recent years, Miz Diva takes it to a whole new level.

Quadron is a Danish, electronic-soul duo made up of Coco and Robin Hannibal. They’re part of the soul collective Boom Clap Bachelors (released album “Kort før dine læber” in early 2008), and the two then decided to collaborate together.

Robin has his own projects and has collaborated with artists such as Aloe Blacc, Omas Keith (from SA-RA), Wally Badarou (from Talking Heads), Erick Serman, Buraka Som Sistema, and has fans such as Pharrell Williams and James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem).

I don’t really know much about the group, other than me digging everything I’ve heard from them. If you haven’t heard any of their music, I suggest you do a google search.

Anyway, I saw the video where they’re performing the song, “Herfra Hvor Vi Star”….
