May 16th was the kick off to J-Summit NY’s new monthly Japanese Pop Culture festival held at The Studio @ Webster Hall. The monthly festival will host different facets of Japanese pop culture including music and fashion. Last Sunday evening, fans crowded The Studio for a  line up that featured five of NYC’s incredible Japanese rock bands: Lilac, Typherus, NoirceuR, Stella’s Attic,  and Hsu-nami. CrayonBeats was there to catch the first two acts in action.

The evening began with Typherus urging the early crowd to come closer to the stage, because you know, “that’s where they party’s at”. Once everyone was in position, the band let loose:  singing, screaming, and setting the night off right. The music was loud, and infectious; which in turn got the audience pumped for the upcoming bands. After getting everyone’s adrenaline rushing, Lilac was up next.

The guys opened their set with the fan favorite ‘Feel’ (say that three times fast) and also played my favorites ‘Future’ and ‘Vanity’. Their 8 song set was loud and fun, ending with their newest song ‘The Night’. Stay tuned because later this week we have an exclusive interview with the band  as well as footage of their set! RAWR!

  3. Are you going to the next J-Summit? There’s so much stuff going on that day with Japan Day, Wonder Girls, NoirceuR. It’s crazy.

:) I’m not sure if I’m going to the next J-summit, because I already planned to go to Japan Day and I don’t know if I’ll be up for it after spending the day there. As for WG, no, I’m not going to that. :) But if you go, have fun, and make sure you post it up on SBR!
