charliebones_danielCrayon Beats was hit up with an email from the lovely Charlie Bones. She asked if we’d consider reviewing her photography on our site, and we gladly accepted. Below are a few photos from her online portfolio, along with mini reviews. Hope you enjoy, and be sure to check out more at her Flickr.

Other than my half-ass attempt of taking a photography class in Sophomore year of high school, I don’t have much knowledge of the photography realm – besides what I use on my digital camera. But I can still point out what I like and dislike, right? Right.

The six portraits in her “Little Discoveries” set are amazing. I like the vibrant blue background that was chosen for the two individuals. Pictured are two shots – her boyfriend (Daniel-above) and her friend (Andrea-below). The focus and the lighting in this set are on point. The colors are bright, and the pictures are clear. I think with this set in particular, Charlie captures the realness of the people. It doesn’t feel like they are forcing some kind of expression or pose; it feels natural and comfortable. I like that.

Photo of Brette Young – First thing, isn’t the model gorgeous? I dig the color tones of this set. The setup (brick wall, lighting, and couch) almost gives off this dance club type of feel. Hah. Behind the model, the brick wall is nicely lit – slight brightness surrounding Brette, which then gets darker on the outskirts. When looking at the picture, all your focus is on the girl; your eyes don’t wander to stare at something else. She’s centered perfectly, too.

Photo of Rachel – The first thing I noticed are the horizontal lines on both the shed and on the model’s sweater. Intentional or not, I think that’s cool. Next, was the brightness and contrast of the shot. It has this sharp, crispy feel.

charliebones_chinatown

Photo of Chinatown (Fresno) – This instantly caught my eyes. I love that it captures all that’s there – the colorful and busy atmosphere. I appreciate that the shot kind of gives off this symmetrical vibe too – buildings lined on both sides, the street is straight down the middle, the red balloon objects (I’m not sure of the correct term for these, haha) strung across, the sea green poles alongside the road… awesome! I think this is an example of one of those photos that someone will see and wish that they were there. The only negative about this, for me, is that I wish there was a larger resolution (I want a closer look). Other than that though, it’s lovely.

Photo of Cherry blossoms – Who doesn’t love those?! They’re so pretty, and they have a nice smell. The photo with the never-ending rows of cherry blossom trees, with the petals covering the ground, is amazing. I would love to go there, as well as snap pictures. It looks peaceful. The flower photography that I’ve seen of Charlie’s are pretty (they’re all from early 2008 though). I think she should do some more outside, because the pictures show that she has a good eye for beautiful glimpses of nature’s plantlife. Other than the cherry blossoms, I think the colors of this flower almost mirror some sunsets that I see here in Arizona. :]
