001So, you may or may not know that I love reading/collecting Japanese fashion mags, right? Well, previously I’ve never really purchased anything other than the more “urban” magazines, even though I still like some of the more prominent gyaru styles. Of course, LUIRE, which I’ve gushed about not once, but twice in the course of this blog is going to always be my favorite, however other than that, I’ve only previously purchased Woofin’ Girl and once I bought an issue of Blenda, but didn’t like it as much (probably because it was a special Beyonce issue….I might have had a Beyonce overdose that day. LOL) However, I thought I’d give a go at another publication, since it’s always good to be open to fashion right? I didn’t want any EGG or even ViVi, since those are more on the “extra” side for me…I opted for Jelly instead. It seems a little less “urban” than LUIRE but a little more “street” than say, ViVi. I like what I’m seeing so far.

I don’t know how many of you are apart of Twitter or know what it’s about. It’s called micro-blogging. You basically answer the question of “What are you doing?” in 140 letters or less. You have a friends-list (people you follow) and people that can follow your updates (tweets) too. You can reply (it’s public) to their posts, or direct message them (where it’s private). You can update your twitter (and @reply) from your phone through texts or mobile web. You can post links. You can post pictures with Twitpic or a few other sites or from your phone… onto Twitter! In no way am I saying “so and so uses it, so you should too“, but a lot of people use it.

2manydjs2 Many DJ’s (David & Stephen Dewaele) took over Rob Da Bank‘s show for 2 hours. They played a non-stop 60 minute mix of 420+ song intros. AMAZING! From artists such as Nirvana, The Beatles, Ginuwine, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix, Kool & The Gang, Sly & The Family Stone, Air, Eric B & Rakim, Franz Ferdinand, MGMT, The Clash, AC/DC, Van Halen… and so on. It’s soooo wild, and I love it. And for the next hour of the show, they played a dope disco mix. They’re geniuses.

Download the whole mix below, it’s definitely worth it.

frolabAs a natural chica, anytime I see celebrations for afros, curls, and kinks, I’m happy. Be it on messageboards devoted to hair, or on awesome T-shirts, ‘fro love is great to see.  So you can imagin how smiley I was when I came across FroLab. What’s FroLab? Well, it’s a blog that celebrates urban culture in everything from music, to art, fashion…and of course AFROS! But as they stated on their website,” it’s bigger than a afro.”

camilleMore Camille fun! So yes, I know that Music Hole is almost a year old, but good music doesn’t have an expiration date. With that being said, I’ve been youtubing almost every performance of hers, she’s so good live! I can’t stop singing her songs, I can’t stop talking about her, she’s just awesome.

While I was youtubing, I did find these clips from  her Music Hole documentary. There’ about 10 minutes apiece, and even tho they’re quite short, I think I’ve fallen in love with her creative, quirky and sarcastic personality. Like one commenter on the video noted, “she’s all rhythm and poetry.” She does a great job of illustrating in the documentary that music is everywhere in our lives, and it doesn’t always have to come from man made instruments, or the radio. We’re perfectly capable of  creating wonderful sounds on our own. =)

Bay Life1

Posted by - In Randomness

saulcohen The guy to your left is from the bay area, and his name is Saul Cohen. If you don’t recognize him yet, you’re about to get familiar.

So, I came across a few videos of his a couple days ago. He had (last one posted was a year ago) a mini series called, Bay Life, that can be viewed on youtube. Based on the little research that I did, it started 2+ years ago. The first Bay Life video shows Tre standing outside of his parents’ restaurant, “Saul’s Restaurant and Delicatessen,” while he explains his name change. The videos are much like that of a trailer, being that they’re a minute to a couple minutes in length. Basically, it shows different views of his life in the bay; the camera-guy is either interviewing Tre or he’s following him around the streets.

vette1You know how you stumble upon some really good music, and you feel you must tell people about it or your head will explode? Well that’s how I’m feeling right now about Jonelle Vette aka VETTE.  I was on Facebook messing with a bunch of apps when I did the whole 10 free downloads thingy, and I just happened to choose this song called Bound by VETTE. I didn’t really have any expectations for it, but I gotta say, it’s pretty damn good. It’s got almost a blues-y feely but then it’s kinda alternative pop-ish..I like.

tuna_burgerWell, to tell you the truth, I don’t know if they’re tasty or not…at least not yet. My mom called me from the grocery store eariler today to tell me that she was going to bring me some tuna burgers. See, I’m a quasi-vegetarian so I don’t eat chicken, turkey, beef, or pork…but I get down with muh seafoodz, so she thought I might like them. I told her, sure, since I’ll try anything once, and well, tonight I’m going to do the Burger and Fries bit, but with a aquatic twist.
